Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Property Accountant to take full accounting responsibility for a complex downtown office property. This role oversees all accounting functions end-to-end ("soup to nuts"), including general ledger supervision, reporting, and property-level financial operations.

This position is based onsite in the Laurel, MD office and offers the opportunity to grow into a Co-Manager of Accounting within a small, highly collaborative department.

Key Responsibilities

Property Accounting & Financial Management

  • Manage all accounting activities for a complex commercial office property, including full-cycle property accounting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Oversee the general ledger, ensuring accuracy, reconciliation, and compliance.
  • Handle CAM reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, A/R and A/P related to the assigned property.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Produce financial reporting packages for internal leadership and ownership.
  • Analyze variances, trends, and operational results to provide financial insights.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting for assigned assets.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Coordinate with property management, leasing, and construction teams to ensure accurate financial information.
  • Participate in process improvements and workflow enhancements within the accounting department.

Systems & Compliance

  • Use MRI for all property accounting functions.
  • Maintain internal controls and adhere to company policies and GAAP standards.
  • Support annual audit activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of property accounting experience, ideally in commercial real estate.
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and general ledger oversight.
  • Proficiency with MRI (preferred).
  • Ability to work onsite in the Laurel office.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and comfort working in a small department where responsibilities span a wide range.
